Monitoring visit of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the DESPRO project leadership to the Bakhchysarayskyi rayon of AR Crimea

Monitoring visits of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and Decentralization Support to Ukraine project DESPRO leadership to Bakhchysarai rayon of AR Crimea was carried out on February 11, 2010.
In c.Bakhchysarai delegates met with the Head of Bakhchysarayskyi Rayon State Administration Mr. Ilmi Umerov and the Head of Bakhchysarayskyi Rayon Council Mr. Olexander Tarianyk.
Monitoring visit participants visited also villages Samokhvalove (Sevastyanivka), where they met with the village Head Igor Kazakov and village community. They also reviewed "Water supply reliability improvement in villages Sevastianivka and Samokhvalovo of the Bakhchysarai rayon" project progress, which aim was to create an alternative, independent water supply system by involving the citizens into construction of the second lift station and the mine pit (captation).
Constructed station allowed delivering water to citizens around the clock at the low pressure of the water supply network of the Poshtove public utility company. Mine pit built by the community resources will allow providing water from the mine pit to the village residents in the summer, when there is no water in the water supply network of the Poshtove public utility company. It is also expected that in the result of the project implementation the employment rate will rise in the villages due to the development of small farms.
Now 763 residents of the villages, living in 193 households have around the clock water supply. Moreover, it is hard to overestimate social impact of the community participation in solving its own problems at the local and regional levels, as its members are now confident in their own capacities.
The Country Director of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Ukraine Manuel Etter, Program Manager of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation Olena Lytvynenko, DESPRO Senior Project Coordinator in Ukraine Oksana Garnets and specialist on decentralization and social mobilization Vyacheslav Sorokovskyi took part in the monitoring visit.
