On 2^nd April 2012 the first meeting of DESPRO Oblast working group took place in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. 

28 March, Tulchyn (Vinnytsya Oblast): To solve the problem of solid waste accumulation in Tul’chyn rayon the inter-municipal project on integrated approach to solid waste management is been implementing in the area. It is carried by Tulchyn rayon state administration, Tulchyn rayon council, Tulchyn town council, Suvorivske and Kynashiv village councils and is supported by Swiss-Ukrainian Project “Decentralization Support in Ukraine” and UNDP Project "Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development". In March 2012, an information campaign “Less waste – better life”, aimed at reducing the waste generated in everyday life was launched.

Verhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on state construction and local self-governance in cooperation and with support of Swiss-Ukrainian Project “Decentralization Support in Ukraine” (DESPRO), Council of Europe and Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme conducted a round table, during which a Draft Law “On Associations of Territorial Communities” was discussed. 

On 6 March 2012 Swiss-Ukrainian Project “Decentralization Support in Ukraine” (DESPRO) presented at the Presidium of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine” its study “Decentralization and Local Self-Governance as a Good Potential for Gender Equity”.

Reforming the administrative and territorial structure is an integral part of administrative and territorial reform aimed at optimizing territorial administrative system, organizing relations between different levels of power and, at last, promoting the life quality of every rural or urban citizen. Ukraine always had a number of projects, concepts and programs on society transformation. But all of them “remained on a paper”. Therefore, during the meeting of Swiss-Ukrainian Project “Decentralization Support in Ukraine” (DESPRO) that took place on 29 February 2012, the experts discussed the possibility of a series of reforms in Ukraine and their distribution among the people at large.

Working group for coordination of projects and programs activities providing international technical assistance has been created in MINREGIONBUD. Its overall goal is to strengthen the coordination between the projects initiated by international organizations for the development of Ukrainian housing and communal sector as well as to inform people on related to reforming achievements in the sphere. These are the issues, which were underlined by Mr. Anatoliy Blyznyuk, Minister of Regional Development, Construction and Housing of Ukraine, during his speech at the first meeting of the newly created body.

On 2 to 3 February workshop on Knowledge Management took place in Sevastopol. It was organized in cooperation with Sevastopol Training Centre for public servants. Representatives of DESPRO partners in Crimea and other stakeholders participated in it.
