On October 15, 2015, a workshop titled “Inter-municipal waste disposal systems in Ukraine – from idea to implementation” took place in Poltava oblast. During the workshop, a strategy for solid domestic waste disposal in Poltava oblast, as well as practical aspects of inter-municipal waste disposal project implementation in Vinnytsya oblast were presented.

DESPRO experience, exemplified by inter-municipal solid domestic waste disposal project in Tulchyn rayon of Vinnytsya oblast, was presented by DESPRO Expert for decentralization and public services, Vyacheslav Sorokovsky. Detailed information on our projects can be found here  

Participants had the chance to exchange experience, discuss national policy and problematic issues in the field. Particular attention was given to organizational and legal, financial aspects of regional waste disposal systems, and to the concept of raising public awareness.

The workshop involved representatives of central state authorities and local self-government, business-structures and establishments, working in the areas of waste disposal, environmental safety, and environmental protection.

The event was organized by joint efforts of the project “Management reform in the East of Ukraine”, implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH company, according to the instruction of the Government of Germany, Swiss-Ukrainian project “Decentralization support in Ukraine” (DESPRO), and the Ministry of regional development, construction, and housing and communal services of Ukraine.
