The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the concept based on which local self-government will be reformed

The reforms should result in the local elections in autumn 2015. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the concept of local government reform.

 This news was announced today, at a press conference in Kyiv, by Volodymyr Groisman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities of Ukraine.

"Today we have made a very important decision in terms of political perception by the Ukrainian Government of changes, that need to take place in the country, in order to start changing the system of power at the local level", - the official reported.

 According to him, the Concept of the government envisages all necessary legislative changes to be developed and adopted by 2014, which should allow us to start the practical implementation of the reform, aimed at decentralization of power, the following year.

 In the Minister’s opinion, the result of implementation of these reforms will be conduction of the election to local authorities on a new basis in autumn 2015. Immediately after the appointment of the new Cabinet of Ministers, headed by Arseniy Yatsenyuk, the Prime Minister emphasized that the primary task of the Government is to reform local government. He assured that all the innovations, associated with the decentralization of power in the state, will be provided for in the new version of the Constitution.
